MING DYNASTY CHENGHUA BLUE AND WHITE DRAGON STEM BOWL
Ming Dynasty fine Imperial mark and period Chenghua hi stem
Bowl. This under-glazed blue and white hi stem bowl has two
twisted Dragons running in the clouds on the outside and one
Dragon in the clouds on the inside. The body is white porcelain
and stem and bowl are luted together. The cobalt blue is a
very rich and deep 15th century color. Painting style outlines
filled in with fine washes. Glaze is glossy, soft and smooth,
and has a few tiny firing iron specks. From being buried the
glaze has slight pitting with yellowish hue, and russet inclusions
and flaking in the biscuit. During the Chenghua period they
experimented with many Dragon motifs. And as in other periods
at times parts of a motif may be left out or added too, this
does not mean it is not of the proper period. There are no
published Chenghua stem bowls with the Chenghua Mark until
now. Measures 6 ¾ inches / 17.1 cm. Diameter.
